Discharge duties properly: PM to police

Womenbd Desk: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has asked the police to discharge their duties properly so that the country runs smoothly.

She made the directive while addressing senior police officials at her office on Monday morning as part of the ongoing Police Week.

The Prime Minister said although previous governments came to power using all the forces, they did not work for their welfare.

The Awami League government has ensured various facilities for the police after it came to power, she said.

Sheikh Hasina said they found all the forces in a very bad shape — be it the Bangladesh Army, police, Rab, BGB or Air Force. “They used them and there were coups again and again. As a result, members of the Army and Air Force had been killed.”

She also said they found an anarchic situation in every institution.

Mentioning that she wants to improve the lifestyle of the country’s people, the Prime Minister said it will have to be ensured that their lives are secure and the state runs properly. “And a state can function properly when law enforcement agencies discharge their duties with sincerity.”
