BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia’s physical condition is stable now, said the doctors of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU).
They have stated that in some cases it has improved after her admission at BSMMU hospital on April 1 this year.
Dean of the Faculty of Medicine Professor M Zilam Miah Sarker, also head of the medical board formed to monitor Begum Zia’s health, said: “Her [Khaleda’s] health condition is stable and improved in some cases.”
He made the statement while addressing a press briefing at Dr Milan Hall of BSMMU today to inform the health condition of the BNP chief.
He further said: “Pre-requisite vaccine is required for modern treatment of arthritis, but she has not given us any consent for that. We hope, she will take the decision very soon after consulting her relatives.”
BSMMU Director (Hospital) Brigadier General Dr AK Mahbubul Hoque said: “The press conference has been arranged to clear confusion, as there have been a number of complaints and allegations both from her party leaders and family members, about Khaleda Zia’s health condition.”
“It is quite reasonable for her family members to worry about her physical condition, but we are providing the best treatment to the former prime minister with the highest care and medical ethics,” he added.
“There has been improvement in her diabetes, arthritis and some other health issues. She is doing well, considering the various problems at this age,” the BSMMU director said.
He also said, “The BNP chairperson is satisfied with the treatment and she has not shown any interest to go anywhere for her treatment.”
Pro Vice-Chancellor (academic) Professor Shahana Akther Rahman and Pro Vice Chancellor (administration) Professor Muhammad Rafiqul Alam also spoke at the briefing.
On April 1, Khaleda was admitted to BSMMU from Old Dhaka Central Jail with severe pain in the joints of her hands and legs, hypertension, insomnia, weakness, high blood pressure and high sugar level.
