Women BD Desk: A writ has been filed with the High Court seeking Tk 50 million to compensate the family of Taslima Begum Renu, who was lynched by a mob on suspicion of being a child lifter.
In the petition, she also sought the court’s directives on the government to give Tk one million of the compensation to Renu’s family within 15 days.
Ishrat, in the petition, also pleaded to the court order the government to take action to remove posts containing rumours from Facebook.
Secretaries of Cabinet, Home, Law, Information ministries, Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) commissioner, and Badda police station officer-in-charge were made respondents in the writ.
Apart from urging the court to issue an order to enact separate law regarding lynching incidents, the petitioner also pleaded to the High Court to issue a rule asking to why inaction of the respondents should not be declared illegal.
Advocate Ishrat Hasan confirmed Bangla Tribune that, “The bench of Justice Moyeenul Islam Chowdhury and Justice Md Ashraful Kamal will hear the petition next Sunday (Aug 4).
